Dates: 27th September to 1st October
Theme: Black Peace.
Since 2007, Storymoja Festival has been inviting writers, authors, musicians, actors, storytellers, poets, spoken word artists, photographers, film makers and creatives from all over the world to come to Nairobi for East Africa's biggest books and culture party. Each year, we share a wonderful stage with these artists upon which they get to realize and showcase their works and creativity alongside an eager crowd of up to 9,000 attendees in collaboration with the Storymoja Festival team.
It is that time of the year again, when we invite artists to apply to participate for the Storymoja Festival 2017. This year is particularly unique to us, both as Storymoja and as Kenyans. It marks 10 years since we began this journey as the Nyama Choma Literary Fiesta that was held at the Nairobi Impala Club along Ngong Road. It has also been 10 years since Kenya suffered through one of her darkest hours, otherwise known as Post Election Violence.
This is what largely informed the theme for this year's festival; BLACK PEACE.
We would like to explore the dynamics of human conflict above and beyond the spectrum of ethnic tensions. This year, we would like to use the arts to explore the different forms of conflict that affect human relations today; from mental health, to ethnic tensions, race relations, gender issues, social class disparities, religion among others.
What do you think? Are you an artist whose work fits this kind of bill? If yes, then we would like to invite you to join us at the Storymoja Festival on the 27th September to 1st October and join us in this conversation. It would be our pleasure to host you.
